John Virtue: New Small Paintings of the Thames
7 by 9 inches, 50 pages and 2 foldouts
January 2006 for the Yale Center for British Art with Lyn Bell Rose

This small, hardcover book was designed for an exhibition of the same name. It includes two essays about John Virtue’s work, plates, and two foldouts containing quotes from the artist and a complete checklist of the exhibition. Each work of art was silhouetted to highlight the irregular surface and shape, one of the signature characteristics of the artist’s pieces. Type and colors were chosen to work with the geography and mood of the art.

Sabiduras Y Otros Textos de Gego
9.85 by 9.85 inches, 256 pages
April 2006 for The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston and Gego Foundation, Caracas, Venezuela with HvADesign

This book is a collection of writings in Spanish, English, and German, by the Venezuelan artist, Gertrude Goldschmidt (Gego). We carefully laid out the artist’s writings according to her original manuscripts, using color to differentiate languages. A facsimile of the original writing, printed on translucent stock and tipped in, faces the curator’s introduction to each work. A bilingual belly-band wraps around the blind embossed linen cover, which shows a reproduction of one of Gego’s prints.

I Love You, Mom
7 by 7 inches, 372 pages
May 2019

In an effort to come to terms with her mother's 2018 pancreatic cancer diagnosis, professional photographer Stacy Waldman Bass created a living portrait on social media. She collected photos accompanied by detailed captions to post to Facebook as a way to share memories and to build a community of support. The goal was to share one post per day for a full calendar year but unfortunately Jessica passed away just before that milestone. The book that was intended to be a gift for her mother instead turned into a tribute, a fundraising effort for life-changing cancer research, and a source of inspiration to others.

I worked closely with Stacy to honor the original social media platform and create on-demand hard- and soft-cover books as well as an electronic version, with sales helping to benefit cancer research.

The essays and plates are printed on a bright white stock while the front matter, chronology, and back matter are printed on a contrasting uncoated, off-white stock.
